You got here through my scribblings on family life. Most of these pics have to do with my mother, Joy. My dad is in them almost as an afterthought.
The Great Depression fascinates me. My generation's parents lived through it; no one younger than us has an inkling, and an inkling is all we have.
These are all the farm pics that I could find. Joy is in the middle of the back in the long pic, partially eclisped by Bessie, her mom. Other than Babe, far right, I am not sure who anyone is.
Left is probably a high school pic. My best guess is early '30's.
Far left is the first pic I have of Joy. It is about 1925.
I am guessing the fishing-pic is from before the war, or shortly thereafter, and is in Florida.
The pic on the right is an unkown quantity. It is from 1935 and a stamp on the back says Jamestown.
On the left is Joy with the only one of her nine, give or take, husbands that I have ever seen. He is Jerry Cliff, and is either my half-sisters father or uncle. Only DNA could tell at this point.
The pic on the left is of Joy and Kenny in March of '43. Don was not far from the scene. Interestingly enough the back of this photo has a dozen lines of writing blacked thru several times over and completely illegible.
It must be 1944 before mid-year. I am on the scene and we are almost smiling.
Here are several wartime and just post-war pics of the three of us. The one to the left is here only for the hat: amazing!
The above is a a pretty typical homefront photo.
Joy always did love a nice car. California, 1947.
I found this pic and just had to throw it in. How do you get a God-fearing couple of sixty-something Christian farmers from Missouri to go to Tiajuana and pose for the likes of this?
Above right it is Charlie, Joy's father, Joy, her mom, Bessie, and little sis Peggy. On the right Peggy and Joy let Don play too. It must be close to 1950..
